In contrast to many of Modigliani's portrait paintings that do not depict pupils, this piece not only portrays the model's pupils but also conveys a noble and melancholic expression in her gaze, which is captivating. An important aspect of this painting is Modigliani's use of contrasting shading effects to render the details of the eyes, a technique he didn't often employ. In 2018, at the Louvre Abu Dhabi opening ceremony in the United Arab Emirates, Modigliani's "Seated Woman (Dédie Hayden)" was one of the centerpiece exhibits.
